An Assessment of the Coulter STKS on the Leukocyte Differential Count

Abstract
The automated leukocyte differential counts and the suspect flags of Coulter(r) STKS were analyzed and compared with the manual differential count in the 248 specimens. The correlation coefficient was 0.914, 0.892, 0.626 and 0.067 for
lymphocytes,
neutrophils, monocytes, cosinophils and basophils, respectively, Lymphocytes were counted lower(P<0.001) in STKS' automated differential counts than manual counts. The suspect flags related to the leukocyte differential count were printed out in
22.4%
of the 241 specimens, and the frequency and false positive rate of 'Imm Grans/Bandsl' were highest among the suspect flags. So the authors made the criteria for the manual differential counting on the suspect flags, and added some criteria on the
other
parameters. As a result, the review rate of the leukocyte differential count could be reduced to 32.6%, in comparison with that previously done with coulter S plus IV(53.3%).
